Obituary for Michael E. Broom

Michael E. Broom of Winter Haven passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the Winter Haven Hospital. He was 61. Born May 4, 1952 at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland to Melton and Ann Eddy Broom, Michael moved here in 2004 from Tallahassee, FL. He was a Graphics Designer for Homes and Land Real Estate publications. Michael has devoted his life to helping others. A very active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic church, where he serves as a Eucharistic Minister, Cantor, member of the choir, and he also cooked for church functions, and the Knights of Columbus, where he is a 4th degree Knight. A lot of hours were spent volunteering for the Special Olympics of Polk County, where he photographed their events, and Habitat for Humanity. Michael was a member of the Father, Son, and Holy Smokers barbeque team, was active with the Lions Club of Tallahassee, and he was a 1st Class Scout in his younger years.

Michael was predeceased by his mother Ann Broom. He his survived by his father: Mel Broom of Palm Bay, FL, his brothers: Larry Broom of Winter Haven, and Tom Broom (Mary) of Melbourne, FL; his sisters: Frances Jean Armstrong (James) , Ann Marie Chester (David) , both of Palm Bay, and Susan Kilmer (Joel) of Ft. Pierce, FL. Michael also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, December 20, 2013 from 6 to 8 PM at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Winter Haven. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Winter Haven. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Polk County Special Olympics, or the Knights of Columbus.
