60th Birthday Party

What a magical night.  You just knew it was going to be a great night when there was 50 people there 45 minutes in advance – and then they really started arriving; almost 250 total, with over 80 classmates from the Class of 70 along with a covey of their spouses enjoyed the night with Eagles from the early 60s to 71.  Consider the following and ask yourself how the night have been any better?

  • We had more attendees than we have seen at any class’ reunion in years.
  • We had a lower registration fee than has been charged in years ($20 including dinner) – Heck, I spent almost that much going to the Sweetheart Dance in 1969.
  • We hired wait staff, and bartenders and no classmates had to give up their night waiting on others.  The dreaded cleanup was also hired out.
  • The weather was perfect in the mid-60s with not a cloud in the sky, although as I drove towards Vero, returning home at 2:00 AM, the bottom fell out – timing is everything.
  • By opening the party to all past Eagles many families had multiple brothers and sisters attend; all the Hucks, Sinnotts, Simmons, Suggs and many more were represented.  That was great.
  • There was plenty of great food, thanks to Jim and Karen Huck.
  • Mitch Hilburn’s band Out on Bail, the best band on the Treasure Coast, kept the night hoping – those guys are great – it was even sweeter when you consider that Mitch paid for the band and it cost the class ZERO.  Thanks Mitch.
  • We got a chance to turn back the hands of time and hear Traditions Children sing two sets which included my favorite, “Don’t Let The Sun Catch You Crying” – Thanks Guys
  • And best of all our “Class of Party Animals” reputation remains intact even at 60, since the entire class got BUSTED by Ft. Pierce’s finest, shutting us down in mid-song for partying “Too Loud and Too Long”  - what a great ending to a perfect night.
  • Even after the band shut down, some 50 people stayed till almost 1:00 AM – Of course a number of us sleep 6 hours Sunday afternoon.

So, it appears that our 60th Birthday Party turned out just has we had hoped.

Thanks to all who helped make the night the success it became.
